The Third Annual Table Tennis Tournament
The third annual table tennis tournament, sponsored by the Chinese Association of Iowa, was held successfully at Westchester Church in Des Moines on Saturday, January 27th. The tournament had received enthusiastic support from the local communities. The CAI board members Shifu Zhen and Scott Zhao had coordinated the tournament.
Thirty participants played in 5 different categories (Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles). They are people from the local Chinese communities, players of local table tennis club, and people from neighboring towns.
Having players of different cultural backgrounds and different playing styles created an exciting, competitive environment. Feedback about this tournament is extremely positive, especially that from the first-time participants in the tournament. All players had expressed willingness to work on creating opportunities for more potential games, individual and team ones. Even more participants are expected for the next annual tournament.
